Region 6 members who attended the ACCED-I 31st Annual Conference in Orlando, FL in March 2011
News
Arriving home from a conference is an exciting time. The minds of the individual attendees are over flowing with pertinent information, new policies and procedures to implement, and memories of new places, new experiences, and of course, new and old friends alike. This year, Region 6 had a fantastic representation at ACCED-I 31st Annual Conference and Expo in Orlando, FL held March 27-30, 2011. We had twelve individuals attend the conference from nine different institutions. This represents 22% of our entire region.
Sunday evening was our regional meeting where we welcomed Debbie Letterman, of Missouri State University, as our incoming regional director-elect. After the meeting, Region 6 enjoyed the sites, sounds, and a great meal at Downtown Disney.
At the Tuesday evening Awards Reception and Closing Gala Tony Rathgeber, of University of Nebraska - Lincoln, accepted the Outstanding Institutional Achievement Award on behalf of his institution. UNL received this prestigious award for its work with the 2010 Special Olympics National Games, during which the Conference Services department housed and fed over 3,700 Special Olympic athletes, coaches, and organizers for seven days making it the largest sporting even held in North America in 2010.
As you can see, Region 6 continues to contribute an outstanding presence in this Association. On behalf of our entire region, I would like to extend a sincere thanks to Julie Kieffer, of Iowa State University, who served our region well over the past three years. Julie served not only one but two years as our regional director, along with the year as regional director-elect. During Julie’s term as director she brought innovative and inspired ideas to our region. Thanks, Julie, for your hard work and dedication.
If you did not have the opportunity to attend the 31st Annual ACCED-I Conference and Expo in 2011, make plans to attend Denver, CO in 2012.
2010 Fall Summit
At the Fall Summit on November 10-11th, ACCED I Region 6 members had a great opportunity to learn, network, and tour. This year’s conference, hosted at University of Central Missouri, included a diverse schedule including ALICE training, crisis communication, social media and leadership training.
Attendees had plenty of opportunities to have fun with evening bowling and wine tasting, as well as enjoying the beautiful fall on the University of Central Missouri’s beautiful campus!
